As Lord Sainsbury’s educational foundation, Gatsby is committed to addressing the serious shortage of STEM technicians within the UK workforce. To help achieve this, they wanted to create a national campaign to encourage young people with a talent for STEM to pursue a technical career.


Big Frank conceived, created, launched and managed a multi-discipline campaign entitled Technicians Make it Happen. We travelled the country with Gatsby finding, interviewing and photographing an incredibly diverse collection of technicians, giving them the chance to tell their stories and raise awareness of the incredible, skilled work that they do. We made them the stars of the show, not the backroom guys.

We pulled these stories and photographs together to highlight their skills on social media, on-line, off-line and live through the Make it Happen Exhibition that was launched at the Mall Galleries in London before travelling the country both physically and virtually.

The campaign and website hub has proved to be a great source of information about roles of technicians and how to secure one.
